JOINT PRESS RELEASE - Fourth meeting of the Stabilisation and Association Council between the European Union and Montenegro (Brussels, 26 June 2013)

1. The EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Council (SA Council) held its fourth meeting on Wednesday 26 June 2013. This meeting was chaired by Mr Igor LUKŠIĆ, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro, who also led the delegation of Montenegro. Ms Lucinda CREIGHTON, Minister for European Affairs of Ireland, led the European Union delegation (on behalf of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton). Mr Štefan FÜLE, Commissioner responsible for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, represented the European Commission.

The conference was attended by the Vice President of the Government and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro Igor Luksic. The conference that gathered high officials of EU and NATO states, as well as of aspirants to NATO membership, was held on June 24-25, 2013. Participants of the Conference emphasized importance and role of NATO that should further improve its cooperation with partners, particularly in the Middle East, find the best models for strategic communication with Russia and consider modalities “share of burden” with regard to Trans-Atlantic security, They pointed out necessity of more efficient facing with financial crisis that has hit budget allocations for defense of North America and majority of European states, and need for setting up more adequate security cooperation and improvement of military technology, particularly in time of new challenges and threats to global security.

Director General for Multilateral Affairs and Regional Cooperation Damir Grbović participated yesterday in Odessa at the 28th meeting of MFAs of the organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).
