Washington: United States encourages European perspective of the Western Balkans

During the third day of visit to the United States of America, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Dr. Srđan Darmanović met with Acting Assistant Secretary of European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker.

Minister Darmanović introduced the interlocutor with current actualities in Montenegro, while addressing particularly in that context the Draft Law on Freedom of Religion or Belief and Legal Status of Religious Communities.

They also exchanged views on the situation in the Western Balkans, modalities for strengthening mutual trust and further stabilization of region. In that line, Reeker emphasized that the United States of America encourages the European perspective of the Western Balkans.

MVP Minister Darmanović also met with Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback.

Darmanović congratulated Brownback for successfully organized Ministerial Conference that addressed the topic of religious freedom. Interlocutors talked about modalities for advancing the state of affairs in the area of religious freedom in world and Western Balkans' region.

Darmanović also spoke with Kurt Volker, Executive Director of the McCain Institute for International Leadership and U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations.

They exchanged opinions on U.S. and Eastern Europe politics. In addition, they expressed pleasure with relations and overall cooperation between Montenegro and United States on the basis of friendly relations and continuous development.

Minister Darmanović was a special guest on the cocktail organized for the Western Balkans' diplomatic corps and think-tank community by the Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council Damon Wilson, on the topic of further activities of Atlantic Council's Balkans Forward Initiative. On that occasion, Minister Darmanović discussed results of Euro-Atlantic integration process and current challenges in the Western Balkans. Minister Darmanović underlined the importance of joint presence of the EU and United States in the Western Balkans, as well as of strengthening mutual trust and development of good neighborly relations.
