State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Zoran Janković participated today at the International conference “A partnership that matters – 10 years and beyond”, held in Batumi, Georgia. 

This year’s Conference, that gathered numerous European officials, ministers of foreign and European affairs, representatives of the academic community, non-governmental sector and business associations from Europe and wider international community, was dedicated to 10 years since establishing Eastern Partnership Initiative between the European Union and six partner countries of the Eastern Europe (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine).

Ambassador Janković took part at the panel discussion titled “The Story of Two Regions: Eastern Partnership Meets the Balkans”, where he has presented the results of Montenegrin activities in the European integration process and pointed out the importance of regional initiatives and cooperation between Western Balkans’ states, particularly in the framework of Berlin Process. It was highlighted at the panel that both regions share similar challenges on the European path, but that through project-oriented cooperation a concrete step forward in the process of adopting European standards and values can be achieved.

During the two-day program numerous panel discussions were held, where participants exchanged views on processes of democratic transformation of member countries, regional stability and security, but also the concrete projects in the area of traffic, energy and digital connectivity aiming at broader economic and trade integration of this countries with the EU. It was emphasized that in previous 10 years a comprehensive multilateral format for promotion of results-oriented regional cooperation and achieving progress in the reform processes was established.

On the Conference’s margins, Ambassador Janković had separate bilateral meetings with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia Lasha Darsalia and chairs of the parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee and the EU Integration Committee, Sophio Katsarava and Tamar Khulordava. Interlocutors assessed that relations between two states are good and friendly, as well as that the political dialogue on high and the highest level should be intensified in the following period. They also expressed readiness for organizing bilateral political consultations in order to further discuss possibilities for broadening the bilateral and multilateral cooperation, with a particular focus on the exchange of experience and knowledge in European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes.
