Montenegrin diplomacy has given a decisive support to the determination of citizens of Montenegro to correct harsh historic injustice and restore state independence in 2006, emphasized Deputy Prime Minister of the Government Zoran Pažin at the ceremony of awarding certificates to participants of 12th generation of the Summer School for young diplomats “Gavro Vuković”, held tonight in Podgorica.

Deputy Prime Minister stated that multilateralism, which is the main topic of this year’s program of Summer School, represents a natural choice and foreign policy focus of contemporary Montenegro, as a country that cherishes values of peace, solidarity and cultural, ethnic and religious tolerance.

MVP “Future aims of Montenegro are closely linked with multilateralism, particularly having in mind our commitment to secure better quality of life for our citizens, while conducting reforms that will prepare us to become the first next EU member state”, emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Pažin. He added that integration of the whole region of Southeast Europe to the European Union is the only way for achieving historical mission of spreading peace and prosperity on the whole European continent.

Deputy Prime Minister assessed that membership to NATO has given our county permanent peace and security. “While joining NATO we have become a part of community of democratic states ready to defend and protect each other and our common values”, said Pažin.

He recalled the painful historical experience of Montenegro that has lost its state independence on Paris Peace Conference in the aftermath of the First World War. “Montenegro has experienced what means to be without diplomatic voice and place at the table where destiny of state is being determined”, emphasized Deputy Prime Minister, while adding that Montenegro has learnt very well this bitter historical lesson.

Deputy Prime Minister Pažin assessed that in 2006 multilateral diplomacy has played a decisive support to the determination of citizens of Montenegro to correct harsh historic injustice and restore state independence of Montenegro. Since then, diplomacy has been one of key factors of every international success of our restored Montenegrin state.”

MVP According to the UNDP Permanent Representative in Montenegro Daniela Gasparikova, multilateral cooperation was the main topic of this year’s Summer School for a reason, since in times of swift changes and uncertainties states do not have the luxury of working in silos within our country borders. In that context, this Summer School has already transcended many borders and became recognisable in every corner of the earth”, emphasized UNDP Permanent Representative.

Around 50 young diplomats from more than 30 countries has participated at the 12th Summer School for young diplomats “Gavro Vuković.” Main theme of this year’s Summer School, traditionally organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro with support of UNDP office in Podgorica, was the significance of multilateral diplomacy in safeguarding the international peace and security. In addition, the Summer School was an opportunity for participants to get to know the Montenegrin history, culture and potentials of our state, as well as to establish foundations of future cooperation. During previous twelve years more than 550 young diplomats and future decision leaders from more than 70 years acquired skills and knowledge in these fields from the most prominent professor and diplomats.
