Skopje: Minister Darmanović met with the new President of the Republic of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prof. Dr. Srđan Darmanović participated at today’s solemn session of the Parliament of North Macedonia on the inauguration of newly elected President Stevo Pendarovski. 

With a solemn statement before members of Parliament, Government and religious leaders, diplomatic corps, heads of states and other high officials, his five-year term has officially begun. 

Pendarovski is the first President of North Macedonia after the constitutional name change in accordance with Prespa Agreement. 

After the inauguration, head of Montenegrin diplomacy had a meeting with the President of North Macedonia. Minister Darmanović congratulated on the election results and expressed his belief that North Macedonia will continue with its path of progress in terms of European agenda, socio-economic development and prosperity of state and its citizens.

He also praised the entry into force of the Prespa Agreement and signing of Protocol on accession to NATO, as well as expressed determination of the Government of North Macedonia to resolve a decades-long open bilateral dispute with the Republic of Greece through constitutional changes and overall legal and social process, while emphasizing that Montenegro will continue to be a partner and firm supporter of North Macedonia on the path of formalization of membership to NATO, which will also contribute to strengthening of overall bilateral relations.

President Pendarovski emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and constructive approach to resolving open disputes with an aim of strengthening stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans. He also expressed gratitude for the continuous support of Montenegro, particularly in the context of accession to NATO and reform process in line with the strengthening of European path of North Macedonia. 

Interlocutors expressed belief that relations and cooperation between North Macedonia and Montenegro will be developed in times to come, as well as further tightened with the future alliance in NATO. 

On the sidelines of the solemn session of the Parliament, Minister Darmanović met with Presidents of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, Bulgaria Rumen Radev, Albania Ilir Meta and Kosovo Hashim Thaci. In addition, Minister had a number of bilateral meetings with officials of North Macedonia and other countries in the region.
