Seventh political consultations between Montenegro and North Macedonia

Relations between Montenegro and North Macedonia represent an example of good-neighborly policy and regional cooperation, was stated during the seventh political consultations of two Ministries of Foreign Affairs that were held today in Podgorica. Delegations were led by State Secretaries Ambassador Zoran Janković and Ambassador Viktor Dimovski.

State Secretary Janković expressed his pleasure with substantial cooperation of Montenegro and North Macedonia, as well as with friendly and open relations that are confirmed with the intense political dialogue at the highest level. He particularly praised good cooperation in the domain of foreign policy and defence, underlining the space for advancing economic relations, especially in the areas of tourism and infrastructure connectivity.

Ambassador Dimovski praised good bilateral relations and expressed gratitude for swift ratification of North Macedonia’s NATO Accession Protocol, while emphasizing that overall cooperation will be further strengthened also within the Euro-Atlantic alliance.

It was jointly stated that contractual basis of cooperation is very good and stressed the importance of its continuing strengthening.

In the context of accession to the European Union, Ambassador Janković presented the dynamic of reform process and progress of Montenegro on that path, thus emphasizing that we expect to open the last negotiating chapter during this year. He also complimented North Macedonia’s steps forward in European integration, adding that Montenegro will continue with its firm support and assistance.

On today’s consultations interlocutors were of same stance that close regional cooperation and implementation of joint projects represent the most efficient way towards membership in the group of the most developed European democracies.
