MVPMinister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, spoke at the first meeting of the Global alliance for torture-free trade to stop the trade in goods used for capital punishment and torture.

"Montenegro provides unambiguous support to this initiative," Darmanović said, presenting activities carried out at the national level since the launch of the Alliance a year ago. In this regard, he pointed out that the legislative framework in this area is in line with the standards of the European Union, and that Montenegro continues to contribute to raising awareness of the importance of meeting the goals of the Global Alliance.

By joining this initiative, more than 60 countries committed themselves to take effective measures that, in addition to limiting trade in goods used for capital punishment and torture and strengthening cooperation, include the establishment of a global network for the exchange of information and best practices as well as the provision of technical assistance for implementation of relevant legal solutions.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also attended the opening of the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit, as well as the meeting on intensifying activities to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking. The Montenegrin delegation participated in the high-level meeting on the Global Compact for Refugees: A model for greater solidarity and cooperation.
