Bucharest: Montenegro is a successful example of integration reforms

Minister of Foreign Affairs PhD Srdjan Darmanovic, paid an official visit to Romania today. During the talk with Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu, it was pointed out that Montenegro is a successful example of the implementation of integration reforms, as evidenced by the first anniversary of full membership in NATO, but also a leading position in the European integration process.

During the meeting with his Romanian counterpart, Minister Darmanovic praised the continuity of political dialogue at a high level, expressing the belief that "Montenegro and Romania will further deepen their cooperation with joint activities within the North Atlantic Alliance".

He also thanked for continuing support in the process of fulfilling commitments from the European agenda, assessingthat it's of a particular importance that Romania strongly supports European perspective of the Western Balkans and EU's position that the enlargement process should be based on individual merits. "Bearing in mind Romanian presidency to the EU Council in the first half of 2019, we believe that the European perspective of Western Balkan countries will be high on the priority agenda," Darmanovic said.

Minister Melescanu praised the results that Montenegro is continuously achieving on the European path. Noting that the future of Montenegro, but also of the Western Balkans as in the European Union, he also praised the quality and content of bilateral relations, expressing the belief that relations between two countries will be further developed by strengthening of cooperation.

Heads of the diplomacy of Montenegro and Romania assessed that, although the focus of cooperation in the previous period were activities from NATO and EU processes, two countries are continuously and jointly working on strengthening bilateral relations at all levels.

Minister Darmanovic also met Prime Minister Viorica Dancila today in Bucharest. The interlocutors agreed that the high level political dialogue significantly contributes to strengthening the ties between the two countries and represents an incentive for stronger economic co-operation.

Dancila reiterated Romania's commitment to the EU's enlargement policy and the evaluation of the individual results of each candidate country, highlighting the results of Montenegro so far can serve as a positive example to the countries of region. "The European future of Montenegro is very clear and certain," Romanian Prime Minister said.

During an official visit to Romania, Darmanovic also met with Senate President Calin Popescu-Tariceanu and Vice-President of the Lower House of Parliament Petar Gabriel Vlase. During the talks, the importance of parliamentary cooperation, as an important segment of bilateral relations, as well as its role in fulfilling obligations from the European agenda, were pointed out.

Montenegrin foreign minister has also met with Romania's Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici in Bucharest today.
