Ambassador Zoran Jankovic headed the delegation of Montenegro at the 39th General Conference of UNESCO, which was held in Paris.

In the framework of the Plenary session of the 39th General Conference of UNESCO, Ambassador Jankovic in his address pointed out the key role of UNESCO in defining adequate responses to the numerous and serious challenges that we are facing today.

He emphasized the importance of returning to the original principles on which its current and future engagement should be based. In this context, stressed out fully committed of Montenegro to the goals and priorities of UNESCO, which primarily concern the promotion of intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity.

"It seems that humanity has never been so vigilant to recall the importance of a culture of peace and dialogue that is our primary goal. Mutual respect and understanding is a civilization value which has been translated into numerous conventions and standards and represents the leading idea of UNESCO and our common platform for action", said Ambassador Jankovic.

Ambassador Janković highlighted the importance of cooperation between Montenegro and UNESCO in the field of science, culture and education. In addition to that, he said that since the previous General Conference Montenegro has entered two new cultural assets, namely international nominations, on the UNESCO's World Heritage List: medieval graveyards and Venetian fortifications, as well as the importance of the area of Durmitor National Park.
