Ankara: Fourth bilateral political consultations between MFAEI of Montenegro and MFA of Turkey

The fourth bilateral political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey were held yesterday in Ankara.

The delegations were led by State Secretary for Political Affairs Ambassador Igor Jovović and Deputy Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Ambassador Murat Salim Esenli. Montenegro’s delegation also included Director General for Bilateral Affairs Ambassador Ljiljana Tošković, and Montenegro’s Ambassador to Turkey Branko Milić.

The meeting discussed matters of mutual interest and global importance, as well as the agenda of future official and working visits. The two delegations underlined the importance of continuing the top level political dialogue. It was mutually concluded that bilateral consultations are a solid mechanism for improving bilateral cooperation.

Special attention was devoted to further development of bilateral relations, which were noted as friendly, comprehensive, and dynamic in all aspects of cooperation. The meeting noted that the institutional and legal framework is almost complete and the conclusion was that bilateral agreements in the areas of culture, agriculture, and forestry need to be finalised.

A special emphasis was put on the plan to hold the next session of the joint commission for economic cooperation as the precondition for improving cooperation in this area. Along those lines, the officials commended the growth of trade exchange and travel between the two countries, as well as the growing interest of Turkish companies to invest in Montenegro.

The officials exchanged opinions on the regional situation as well as the current issues of terrorism and migration crisis.

During their stay in Ankara, the Montenegrin delegation met with Montenegrin students, management of the Turkish development agency (TIKA), and the national agency for stipends for foreign students (YTB).
