Permanent Representatives of Montenegro and the Republic of Chad to New York, Ambassadors Milorad Šćepanović and Cherif Mahamat Zene, signed the protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Both sides agreed that the establishment of diplomatic relations is an important step towards further development of friendly relations between the two countries, as well as an incentive for improving cooperation bilaterally and multilaterally. This act at the same time broadens the basis for intensifying contacts with other African countries with the view to developing economic and other types of cooperation. In that regard, they voiced mutual interest and readiness to discuss future cooperation in areas such as tourism, agriculture, energy, science and technology, and other areas, with Chad expressing strong interest in Montenegro’s transition experience in the area of building democratic institutions, strengthening the rule of law, and protecting human rights with the objective of post-conflict stabilisation and sustainable social development in Chad

The two Permanent Representatives exchanged opinions on the possibilities for cooperation within the UN in the run-up to the 69th General Assembly, with a special emphasis on the topics of mutual interest such as peace, security, sustainable development goals, post-2015 development agenda, climate change, and human rights.
