Bilateral political and consular consultations between ministries of foreign affairs and European integration of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina were held today in Sarajevo at the level of assistant ministers.

The two delegations were headed by Director General for Bilateral Affairs Željko Perović and Assistant Minister for Bilateral Affairs Amer Kapetanović. Montenegro’s delegation also comprised Secretary-General Predrag Stamatović and Director General for Consular Affairs Branislav Karadžić.

Two ministries’ representatives remarked that traditionally friendly relations between the two neighbouring countries are steadily developing in all areas. The participants underlined in particular the importance of the announced signing of the border agreement, a first document of its kind in the region.

Detailed discussions took place on improving cooperation in the area of consular affairs and agreed to sign an agreement on providing consular relations in third countries.

It was noted that in the future it is necessary to enhance cooperation in the area of economy, and in that regard the delegations agreed to exchange experience in economic diplomacy with the view to defining modes of joint action on promotion in third markets and attracting investors for infrastructure projects.

An agreement was reached to define the two countries’ common interest in the collocation of diplomatic and consular posts abroad. On that topic, the two delegations were joined by the representatives of Macedonia’s foreign ministry with the view to agreeing on a trilateral level the accommodation of a number DCPs.

It was agreed to sign in the near future an agreement on EU integration cooperation.
