Ivan Ivanišević

Ivan Ivanišević, Acting Director General for Multilateral Affairs and Regional Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, is a career diplomat who joined the Ministry in 2004.

Before this assignment, he had a short diplomatic mandate in Ljubljana (Republic of Slovenia) on the occasion of the opening of the very first Embassy of Montenegro upon the renewal of independence (2006). During his mandate in Strasbourg (2007-2011), at the Permanent Mission of Montenegro to the Council of Europe, he fulfilled different duties (Deputy to the Special Envoy of the Government of Montenegro, charged to facilitate the accession of Montenegro to the Council of Europe, Deputy Head of Mission – First Secretary, and finally Chargé d'affaires). He also served as the Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Montenegro to the Republic of Serbia (2016-2017).

Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, he held positions of the Director of the Department for the Council of Europe and OSCE and of the National Coordinator for Francophonie (2011-2013) and of the Head of the International Law Department (January – May 2016).

He also served as a General Director for International Relations and European Integration of the Ministry of Interior of Montenegro (May 2013 – January 2016).

Ivan Ivanišević graduated from the Faculty of Law in Podgorica and successfully concluded the Diplomatic Academy “Gavro Vuković”, specialist courses at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna (Republic of Austria) and at the Netherlands Institute for International Relation “Clingendael” in The Hague. During his education he participated in specialist programs of the “Presidential Classroom” in Washington (2000) and the Democratic Leadership Program of the Council of Europe (2003 and 2005). Ivanisevic speaks English, French and Italian.
